The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the marque's smaller saloon, sitting below the Phantom. This is the original, pre-facelift first-generation car, built from September 2009 and sold as roughly model years 2010 through 2014, before the Series II facelift took over for 2015. It's built on a stretched, reworked version of the contemporary BMW 7 Series platform. Power is a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 (the BMW-derived N74B66), driving the rear wheels through an 8-speed ZF automatic.
The engine and its tune carried straight through to the facelifted Series II car unchanged, so what defines this earlier version is really the original styling and suspension calibration, not a different powertrain. Like every Ghost, it's engineered around isolating the occupants: the V12 is quiet and effortless, the ride is exceptionally smooth, and the cabin is hushed. Ownership costs are the flip side, since tires, brakes and the air-suspension hardware are all big, dealer-priced items.
