The 911 Turbo (997.2) is the all-wheel-drive twin-turbo 911, on the wide body with a retractable rear wing. The big mechanical change from the 997.1 is under the deck: it switched from the Mezger 3.6 twin-turbo to a new 3.8-liter DFI twin-turbo with variable-turbine-geometry turbos, driven through a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK.
Because the new Turbo engine is a DFI unit, it has no intermediate-shaft bearing — the IMS failure mode does not apply here any more than on the DFI Carrera. Inspect the coolant pipes and DFI fuel system, and confirm the center-lock recall on 2010–2011 cars, but the engine itself is a strong point.
