The 911 Targa 4 (997.1), a 2007 addition, is an all-wheel-drive 911 on the wide Carrera 4 body fitted with a large power-operated glass roof panel that slides back under the fixed rear glass, plus a separate lifting rear hatch glass. Mechanically it mirrors the Carrera 4: the 3.6-liter M96 flat-six, all-wheel drive, and a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic S.
Being a Carrera underneath, it carries the M96/M97 engine concerns — cylinder bore scoring and the non-serviceable single-row IMS bearing — so buy on condition and history. Only the Mezger-engined Turbo and track cars avoid this; the Targa does not.
