The 911 Turbo S (996.2) is the 2005 run-out send-off for the 996 Turbo: essentially a Turbo with the X50 power kit as standard — larger turbos, higher boost and a free-flow exhaust — plus standard PCCB ceramic brakes, a six-disc changer and aluminum-faced instruments. It keeps the wide body, all-wheel drive and the choice of six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic S.
Like every Turbo it uses the "Mezger" twin-turbo flat-six, so the Carrera M96's IMS-bearing and bore-scoring failures do NOT apply — the intermediate shaft runs on oil-fed plain bearings and the bottom end is a race-derived dry sump. Still verify boost health, the coolant pipes and clutch, and budget for the PCCB ceramics, which are very expensive to replace.
