The 911 GT2 (996) is the rear-drive, twin-turbo range-topper — often called the "widowmaker" for pairing roughly 460–480 horsepower with rear-wheel drive, a manual gearbox and no traction or stability control by design. Its 3.6-liter twin-turbo "Mezger" flat-six is the same family as the Turbo's, so it does NOT carry the Carrera M96's IMS-bearing or bore-scoring risk; output rose from 462 hp on early (2001–2003) cars to 483 hp on the 2004–2005 run. PCCB ceramic brakes and a fixed rear wing are standard.
The GT2 is essentially a lightened, rear-drive Turbo: about 220 lb (100 kg) under the 996 Turbo, the saving coming mainly from deleting the Turbo's all-wheel-drive hardware (front differential and driveshafts), dropping PSM stability control, the standard ceramic brakes (which alone cut significant unsprung mass), lightweight seats and the fixed wing in place of the Turbo's retractable one. As a Mezger car the engine lottery is off the table, but verify boost health, coolant pipes, clutch and any tuning — and respect that there are no electronic nannies to catch a mistake.
