The 911 Turbo (993) is the first twin-turbocharged production 911 and the first all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo, built from 1995 to 1998. Its air-cooled M64 flat-six carries one turbocharger per cylinder bank with air-to-air intercoolers, and the AWD hardware descends from the 959. It drives through a six-speed manual and rides on standard 18-inch hollow-spoke alloys under a fixed 'whale tail' wing.
It combined the wide Turbo body, big brakes and all-wheel traction into the most capable and usable fast 911 to date — a landmark car that set the template every water-cooled 911 Turbo followed. A factory X50 / WLS power kit was available from MY1996 for more output; it should not be confused with the separate, rarer Turbo S.
It was the first 911 Turbo with twin turbochargers and the first with all-wheel drive, drawing on 959 technology. That combination made it far more usable and capable than the earlier rear-drive turbos and set the pattern that every water-cooled 911 Turbo has followed since.
The X50 (WLS) was a factory power kit, available new or as a retrofit from MY1996, that raised a standard Turbo's output. The Turbo S is a separate, much rarer Exclusiv-built model with bigger turbochargers, extra cooling and its own cosmetic package. An X50 car is not a Turbo S, and the two carry very different values.
