The McLaren 675LT Spider is the open-top sibling of the 675LT coupe, a retractable-hardtop convertible that carries the same track-focused Longtail recipe roofless. Announced later in 2015, it shares the coupe's 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-plane V8 (666 bhp / 675 PS, 516 lb-ft), 7-speed SSG dual-clutch transaxle, rear-wheel drive, longer tail with a larger active airbrake, titanium exhaust and staggered Trofeo R tires. The roof mechanism and added structure make it about 88 lb (~40 kg) heavier than the coupe, but McLaren still quotes a 2,800 lb (~1,270 kg) dry weight and near-identical performance.
Production was capped at a firm 500 units and sold out within about two weeks of order books opening. A separate 25-car McLaren Special Operations "Carbon Series" Spider (with roughly 40% more exposed carbon-fiber bodywork) was also built. McLaren presents it as a distinct MSO series, and whether those 25 cars sit inside or on top of the 500-Spider cap is not confirmed to a single authoritative statement. The Spider reaches 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and tops 203 mph, a fraction down on the coupe for the open body.

"675" is the metric power output: 675 PS (666 bhp / 496 kW) and "LT" is "Longtail", reviving the name of the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail race car. The 675LT is the first modern McLaren to wear the LT badge and founded the LT line that later included the 600LT and the 765LT.
McLaren never published an official redline, so the widely quoted ~8,500 rpm comes from road tests rather than a factory spec. The one genuinely disputed figure is the peak-torque engine speed: McLaren's own spec sheet lists 5,000 rpm while Wikipedia and several outlets cite 5,500 rpm. The torque magnitude itself, 700 N·m / 516 lb-ft, is consistent everywhere.
It is the same M838T twin-turbo V8 family as the 650S, in an uprated LT state. McLaren describes it as roughly 50% new versus the 650S: new turbos, camshafts, lightweight con-rods, revised heads and fuel system, ~22 lb (~10 kg) lighter, with detail changes from the P1 — but the "M838TL" name and the "50% new / one-third of parts" claims are press/marketing descriptions.
They are separate McLaren Special Operations editions built on the 675LT, not part of the 500/500 road-car caps. The MSO HS ("High Sport") was a 25-coupe run uprated to about 679 hp (688 PS); MSO R covers one-off/bespoke commissions. They are noted here for context so the 500-coupe and 500-Spider caps aren't confused with total 675LT-derived output.
McLaren specifies service every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, with a 20,000-mile / 2-year service adding inspection items. A basic annual service will be a few thousand on top of wear items; budget separately for suspension accumulators, the soft track-biased Trofeo R tires, carbon-ceramic brake components and dual-clutch service on hard-used cars.
