The McLaren 650S Spider is the convertible of the Super Series — the same 2014-launched car as the coupe, fitted with a two-piece retractable hardtop engineered to preserve a low center of gravity. It keeps the coupe's 3.8-liter twin-turbo M838T V8 (641 hp / 650 PS / 500 lb-ft), the 7-speed dual-clutch SSG, the carbon MonoCell tub and standard carbon-ceramic brakes, so open-top driving costs almost nothing dynamically.
The only meaningful differences from the coupe are the roof and the small penalties that come with it: the Spider is about 88 lb (~40 kg) heavier and tops out at 204 mph versus the coupe's 207, while still matching the 3.0-second 0–60 mph time. It was built 2014–2016, priced from $280,225 in the US in 2015, and forms the basis of the 50-unit 650S Can-Am MSO special.

The "650" is the metric PS figure: the twin-turbo V8 makes 650 PS, which is 641 hp, up from the 616 hp (625 PS) of the MP4-12C it replaced. It's a PS rating, not a 650-hp or 6.5-liter reference.
McLaren never published an official total, so any figure is an estimate. Enthusiast and registry tallies put the combined coupe + Spider run somewhere between roughly 2,700 and 3,113 across 2014–2017, and the coupe/Spider split is unpublished (a repeated but unverified guess is that the Spider heavily outsold the coupe). Because chassis-number ranges overlap with the 675LT and special editions, treat any single 'total' with caution.
The Can-Am is a McLaren Special Operations (MSO) limited edition of 50 cars, built 2015–2016 on the 650S Spider to mark 50 years of the Can-Am racing series. It keeps the standard drivetrain but adds a carbon louvered front wing, a quad-exit stainless exhaust and 1960s-inspired five-spoke forged wheels. It is a trim of the Spider, not a separate model.
