The Murcielago LP640 (2006-2010) was the car's mid-life overhaul and, for many buyers, the definitive Murcielago. Lamborghini enlarged the V12 and raised power, and Filippo Perini restyled the car with a revised nose, a single off-center exhaust, and asymmetric side intakes. The left intake feeds an engine oil cooler, so the two flanks deliberately differ.
It sharpened the original without losing its analog character: more urgent, better finished inside, and improved E-Gear. A six-speed manual stayed on offer, and a glass engine cover was optional to show off the V12.

LP is Longitudinale Posteriore, Lamborghini's term for the longitudinally mounted, rear-mid engine. 640 is the engine's output in PS. The later SV badge, LP670-4, follows the same logic, with the 4 denoting all-wheel drive.
