The 2005–2006 Ford GT is the car Ford built to celebrate its own centennial, and it is a near-literal love letter to the Le Mans-winning GT40 of the 1960s. Previewed by the 2002 GT40 Concept and styled by Camilo Pardo, it wraps a supercharged 5.4-litre Modular V8 — 550 hp and 500 lb-ft, force-fed by an Eaton 2300 Lysholm twin-screw blower — in an aluminum spaceframe with superplastic-formed aluminum panels. There is a single transmission, a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle, and no driver-assist theatre: it is a fast, analog, mid-engine supercar that happens to wear a Ford badge.
Ford built 4,038 of a planned 4,500 before ending production in September 2006, split almost evenly between the 2005 and 2006 model years, with roughly 3,221 sold in the United States. Final assembly was contracted to Saleen Special Vehicles. At launch demand far outran supply and dealers commanded large markups over the $139,995 base price; two decades on it is a blue-chip collectible, with the 343 Heritage/Gulf-livery cars the most sought-after of all.

No — that is a tach-face marking, not the fuel cut. The supercharged V8 makes its 550 hp at around 6,500 rpm and the rev limit sits around 6,500–6,800 rpm. The 8,000 figure people quote is just where the gauge is printed.
Only in spirit. It is a homage to the 1960s GT40 (the name was shortened because the 'GT40' trademark was held by someone else), and it shares nothing mechanically with the twin-turbo V6 second-generation GT of 2017–2022. This is a road car — it was never a factory race program.
