The Super Sport is the performance peak of the coupe line. Bugatti fitted larger turbochargers and intercoolers to lift the W16 to 1,183 hp (1,200 PS) and 1,500 N·m, wrapped it in a full carbon-fibre body, and revised the aerodynamics, moving the roof intakes to recessed NACA-style ducts and stiffening the suspension. In 2010 it set a Guinness-verified 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph), making it the fastest production car of its time.
Customer cars are electronically limited to 415 km/h (258 mph) to protect the tires; the 431 km/h figure was the record run. Only 48 were built, including a small run of black-and-orange 'World Record Edition' cars. Its 1,183 hp (1,200 PS) drivetrain also went into the open Grand Sport Vitesse.
