The M4 Competition xDrive Convertible is the only open car in the G82/G83 range, pairing the 503 hp Competition powertrain and M all-wheel drive with a powered soft top in place of the previous generation's folding hardtop. The soft top saves weight and packages better than a metal roof, though this is still the heaviest M4.

It's the grand-touring interpretation of the M4: open-air access to the S58's noise with xDrive traction underneath, aimed at buyers who want the sound and the sun more than the last tenth of lap time. It trades some rigidity and weight for that, as open cars do.
