The BMW M2 (G87, 2023-present) is the second-generation M2 and the entry point to the M lineup: a rear-drive coupe built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico on the same platform as the M3 and M4, using a detuned version of their S58 twin-turbo inline-six. It launched in April 2023 with 453 hp (460 PS). From around June 2024, the 2025 model year, output rose to 473 hp (480 PS), and the automatic gained torque (to 443 lb-ft) while the 6-speed manual kept its 406 lb-ft.
It's the cheapest way into the S58 engine, and the only current M2 body still offered with a manual, which is standard (the 8-speed automatic is a no-cost option). The G87 is heavy for its footprint and its squared-off, slab-sided styling divides opinion, but the short wheelbase and rear drive keep it playful. As a new-platform car its long-term reliability record is still short.

No. Unlike the previous F87 M2, the G87 has not offered a Competition trim. The current lineup is the standard M2 and, from the 2026 model year, the lightweight M2 CS. A used listing badged 'M2 Competition' is almost certainly an older F87 car.
