The original BMW M2 (F87, 2016-2018) is the compact, rear-drive entry point to BMW's M range, built on the 2 Series body at Leipzig, Germany. Power comes from the N55B30T0, a 3.0-liter single-turbo inline-six making 365 hp (370 PS), driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch.
Short wheelbase, wide track, and a lot of M3/M4 hardware under a small body make it the spiritual heir to the 2011 1M Coupe. It's the last M2 to use the single-turbo N55; the 2019 Competition swapped in the M3/M4's twin-turbo S55.

The 2016-2018 car uses the single-turbo N55, which is the softer but generally more robust of the two engines. The 2019 Competition replaced it with the twin-turbo S55 from the M3/M4 for more power, more cooling, and a proper limited-slip diff. If you want the simplest, most durable F87, the base N55 car is it; if you want the sharper machine, it's the Competition or CS.
