The DB9 Volante is the convertible companion to the DB9 coupe, launched in February 2005, a month after the coupe entered production. It shares the coupe's VH-platform underpinnings and naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V12 in both states of tune, with a folding fabric top in place of the fixed roof.
Like the coupe, it received the 2008 mechanical and styling update (more power, Bilstein dampers, DBS-style mirrors) and the June 2010 refresh (new bumper and tail lights, Bluetooth, tire-pressure monitoring, optional Bang & Olufsen audio). It replaced the DB7 Volante and, within this VH1 generation, was built through the 2012 model year.

A smaller number of owner complaints on 2007 and 2009 model-year DB9s describe intermittent engine stalling, in at least one case with no diagnostic fault codes and an extended wait before the engine would restart. These are individual owner reports rather than a manufacturer recall, so treat it as a pattern worth asking about on a pre-purchase inspection rather than a confirmed universal defect.
Yes, though it's rare. The manual was a minority choice across this generation of DB9 generally, and rarer still on the heavier, open-top-focused Volante — most surviving cars are Touchtronic automatics.
