Planar system: air springs, active anti-roll, and a road-scanning Flagbearer camera; world-first Upper Wishbone Damper on the front axle.
The second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost (revealed September 2020, on sale 2021) is the marque's entry sedan, below the Phantom and alongside the Cullinan. The big change over the first car is under the skin: it drops the old BMW 7 Series basis for Rolls-Royce's own aluminum 'Architecture of Luxury' spaceframe, shared with the Phantom VIII and Cullinan. Power is a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 driving all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic, with all-wheel steering to shrink the car around you.
The chassis is the headline. Rolls-Royce calls the setup Planar suspension: air springs, active anti-roll, and a forward-facing Flagbearer camera that reads the road so the dampers can get ahead of it, plus a world-first Upper Wishbone Damper on the front axle. The design language is deliberately plain, what Rolls-Royce called 'Post Opulence', so the detailing does the talking: the near-silent cabin, the backlit Illuminated Fascia, and the effortless V12 shove.
Rolls-Royce's name for the Ghost's chassis package: air springs, active anti-roll bars, a road-scanning Flagbearer camera, and a world-first Upper Wishbone Damper on the front axle, all working with the Satellite Aided Transmission to keep the ride flat and gearchanges unobtrusive.
The 2021 car moved off the old BMW 7 Series bones onto Rolls-Royce's own aluminum 'Architecture of Luxury' spaceframe, the same base as the Phantom and Cullinan, and added all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. It's a ground-up Rolls-Royce rather than a shared platform.
