The 911 Targa 4 (997.2) is an all-wheel-drive 911 on the wide AWD body fitted with a large power-operated glass roof panel that slides back under the fixed rear glass, plus a separate lifting rear hatch. Mechanically it mirrors the Carrera 4: the direct-injection 3.6 9A1 flat-six, all-wheel drive, and a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK. It carries more weight than the coupe, so it is a touch slower.
Its DFI engine has no IMS bearing, so the failure mode of the 996 and 997.1 Carrera is designed out — buy on the age items, coolant pipes and the DFI fuel system.
