The 911 Targa 4S (997.1) is the 3.8-liter version of the AWD Targa: the larger M97 flat-six, bigger brakes and wider rear wheels, on the wide Carrera 4 body with the sliding glass roof panel and lifting rear hatch, driven through a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic S, with the optional X51 Powerkit available.

It uses the M96/M97 engine family, so it carries the same bore-scoring risk and non-serviceable single-row IMS bearing as the rest of the Carrera range — buy on condition and history. Only the Mezger-engined Turbo and track cars sidestep the engine worry.
