The 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet (996.2) is the soft-top version of the wide-body 4S: the 996 Turbo's wider body, brakes and suspension paired with the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter M96 flat-six and all-wheel drive, with a power fabric top in place of the coupe's roof. It keeps the Turbo look without the Turbo's engine or fixed wing.
It uses the M96, so it carries the Carrera family's engine concerns — the sealed IMS bearing, bore-scoring risk and weeping rear main seals across the single-row IMS years — where a documented retrofit and a clean bore-scope beat model year. The Mezger engine that sidesteps all of this is only in the Turbo and the track cars.
