New-for-993 aluminum multi-link (LSA) rear axle — the change that tamed the old 911 lift-off oversteer.
Turbo-derived 322 mm cross-drilled discs.
The 911 Carrera S (C2S) is a wide-body rear-drive 993, introduced for MY1996 and built through 1998. It puts the 282 hp (285 PS) VarioRam naturally aspirated flat-six into the wider Turbo bodyshell — wider rear track and arches, the Turbo's larger brakes, and lowered suspension — but without the turbochargers or the fixed rear wing. It is a coupe; a factory Carrera S Cabriolet was not a documented standard model.
The result is Turbo looks and Turbo hardware with naturally aspirated simplicity: the S is for buyers who want the wide-body stance and bigger brakes but prefer the lighter, less costly naturally aspirated drivetrain.
