The 911 R (991.1) is the purist's collector 911: it takes the GT3 RS's 4.0-liter naturally aspirated race engine, pairs it with a six-speed MANUAL — no PDK was offered — drops the big rear wing for a clean deck lid, and deletes sound insulation and other mass. Roughly 991 were built, a deliberate nod to the car's name.
That manual-plus-lightweight-plus-no-wing recipe, in a tiny production run, is exactly why it became the enthusiast's pick. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard.
