The SLR McLaren 722 Edition (2006-2007, 150 built) is the lighter, harder version of the SLR coupe. The AMG supercharged V8 is uprated to 641 hp (650 PS) and 605 lb-ft, and the car sheds 44 kg to 1,724 kg through lighter 19-inch alloys and trimmed equipment. The suspension is stiffer (springs about 15% firmer, aluminum-shell Koni dampers) and sits 10 mm lower, and the front brake discs grow to 390 mm.
The name is a reference to the number 722 carried by the 1955 Mille Miglia-winning Mercedes 300 SLR of Stirling Moss and navigator Denis Jenkinson (a 7:22 a.m. start time). It's the SLR at its most focused: the same GT bones, but sharper, firmer and a little more aggressive.
It's the hardcore SLR: a more powerful supercharged V8, 44 kg lighter than the base coupe, with stiffer and 10 mm lower suspension, bigger front brakes and lightweight 19-inch wheels. The '722' honors the number worn by the 1955 Mille Miglia-winning Mercedes 300 SLR of Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson, whose start time was 7:22 a.m.
