1. 1Confirm the brake fluid reservoir cap recall (NHTSA 22V-536, an expansion of 21V-833) is closed on 2013-2017 cars. A cap that fails to vent can draw a vacuum in the reservoir and leak fluid, risking partial or total loss of braking; the fix replaces the cap and adds a low-fluid warning.
2. 2Confirm the Takata passenger airbag inflator recall (NHTSA 19V-006, 2014-2017 cars) is closed, along with the airbag ECU recall (NHTSA 19V-411, 2015-2017) and, on early 2015 cars, the driver airbag module recall (NHTSA 15V-433). On MY2013 cars sold into high-humidity states, also check the earlier Takata passenger-inflator campaign NHTSA 18V-040, which 19V-006 does not cover.
3. 3Dual clutch is shared with the 458 and is and by far the biggest risk of expense on an average F12.
4. 4Inspect the rear-quarter mesh vents for paint bubbling. It is the most common F12 complaint, caused by galvanic corrosion where the steel vent mesh and its screws meet the aluminum bodywork and trap moisture. Ferrari often repaired it under the 3-year warranty; a lasting fix isolates the metals with nylon/rubber spacers and plastic screws, so confirm any repaint addressed the cause, not just the symptom.
5. 5Try a hot restart during the test drive. F12s start cleanly from cold but can crank lazily or refuse to catch when hot after a short run, sometimes with electrical warnings, typically traced to starter-solenoid heat soak or a marginal electrical path.
6. 6Check the soft-touch switches, bezels and trim for a sticky, tacky surface. The coating degrades with age and handling; the only durable fix is refinishing or replacing the affected parts.
