The Ferrari 360 Modena (1999-2004) replaced the F355 and moved Ferrari's mid-engine V8 onto an all-aluminum space-frame chassis, a first for a road-going Ferrari and about 40% stiffer than the steel F355 structure. Under the rear glass sits the 3.6-liter naturally aspirated F131 V8, five valves per cylinder, spinning to roughly 8,500 rpm and making 395 hp (400 PS). Drive goes to the rear wheels through a 6-speed open-gate manual or Ferrari's electrohydraulic F1 automated single-clutch. Pininfarina styled it and every car was built in Maranello.
The Modena is the everyday, usable end of early-2000s Ferrari ownership: analog, high-revving and, in manual form, one of the last open-gate Ferrari V8s. Most US cars had the F1 transmission; only a few hundred left-hand-drive US examples were 6-speed manuals, which is why the manual now carries a premium. It debuted in 1999 and gave way to the F430 for 2005.
