1. 1As with the Coupe and Sedan, treat the S65's rod/main bearing wear as a real ownership cost: look for a shortened oil-change history and ideally documented preventive bearing work rather than relying on BMW's stock 15,000-mile interval.
2. 2Cycle the folding hardtop fully during inspection and check the roof's hydraulics, seals and trunk-space latching mechanism, the one major system the other two body styles don't have.

  Incorrectly crimped connectors on the side-airbag and seatbelt-tensioner wiring may prevent proper deployment in a crash. Remedy: dealers repair or replace the affected wiring.
• 13V0440002008-2012
  The positive battery cable connection at the fuse box can degrade, causing intermittent loss of electrical power and possible stalling. Remedy: dealers replace and re-secure the connector.
• 16V0710002008-2013
  Non-desiccated Takata driver's frontal airbag inflator can degrade with heat and humidity and rupture on deployment. Remedy: dealers replace the driver airbag module or inflator.
• 17V6760002008-2013
  HVAC system wiring and connectors can overheat and melt, increasing the risk of fire. Remedy: dealers replace the affected wiring and connectors.
• 19V4720002008-2012
  The positive battery cable connection at the fuse box can degrade, causing intermittent loss of electrical power and possible stalling (a re-issued campaign after the initial 13V044000 remedy). Remedy: dealers replace and re-secure the connector.
• 20V0170002008-2013
  Driver's frontal airbag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation after long-term exposure to high heat and humidity. Remedy: dealers replace the driver airbag.
• 22V1190002008-2013
  The heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve can short-circuit, posing a fire risk while driving or parked. Remedy under development at time of filing.
