The BMW M2 Competition (2019-2021) replaced the original M2 and is the big mechanical step in the F87 line. It swapped the N55 single-turbo for the twin-turbo S55B30T0 from the F80 M3 / F82 M4, up to 405 hp (411 PS), and added the M4's larger cooling package plus an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
It keeps the compact, rear-drive coupe format and the choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed M-DCT. This is the version to have for the serious hardware, with the CS sitting above it as the focused, part-carbon send-off.

It's a real, widely reported S55 concern shared with the F80 M3 and F82 M4: the crank hub can slip on the crankshaft nose and lose timing, worst case damaging the engine. It's most discussed on tuned or high-mileage cars, and aftermarket keyed-hub fixes exist. On a stock, well-documented car the failure rate is debated rather than a certainty, so it's a reason to buy carefully, not to avoid the model.
