The TTS (type 8S, US MY2016-2018) is the mid-step of the third-gen TT: the same 2.0-liter EA888 turbo four as the base car but in a stronger tune (the unit shared with the Mk7 Golf R), still through a 6-speed S tronic dual-clutch and quattro all-wheel drive. It sits a touch lower than the base TT and runs bigger wheels.
It's meaningfully quicker than the base TT while keeping the same body, cabin and Virtual Cockpit dash. The step up to the TT RS and its five-cylinder is the bigger jump; the TTS is the quick-daily version of the four-cylinder car.
