The Audi S5 Cabriolet (2010-2012) is the drop-top version of the first-generation A5 platform's performance model, arriving roughly two model years after the S5 Coupe. Unlike the Coupe, it was never sold in the US with a V8: it launched exclusively with a newly developed supercharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6, paired only to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. No manual was ever offered on the US Cabriolet.
The V6-only approach previewed where Audi eventually took the whole S5 line: the Coupe itself switched to the same family of supercharged V6 with the 2013 model year facelift, ending the naturally aspirated V8's run in the nameplate.
US NHTSA campaigns for this model. A listed campaign may not apply to a particular car, and may already have been remedied — check a specific car by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Audi's own technical service bulletin (TSB 2039995/1) covers the fix. Budget roughly $2,500-$4,800 at an independent specialist, or $5,000-plus at a dealer, since the job requires pulling the engine. Most cars that rattle never progress to an actual chain failure, so treat the repair as a possible future cost to weigh against the car's price rather than an inevitability.
